DIGITAL SIGNATURE CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT AND ITS ADVANTAGES

What is Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)?

Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is almost like handwritten signature. It is an electronic imprint for somebody’s mark. It is used as an online authentication tool for a person. In modest words, DSC is an e-certificate confirming one’s identity. Using this an individual can easily acquire all the information connected to an individual.

Digital Signature Certificates are used globally and in India, which must be set by approved officialdoms. It is used to make it document more authentic and more secured. It also ensures that no one can meddle the data once the document has been digitally signed.  

Renewal of such signatures are normally required every 1 or 2 years. Such certificates are accepted for Northern Railway, IFFCO, E –tendering, E-filing, etc. 

Why is Digital Signature Certificate required ?

Various types of digital signature certificate?

There are mainly 3 types of Digital Signature Certificates that are Class-1, Class-2 and Class-3. Each of these class types having different level of safety in them.

Class 1 Certificate:

These certificates will be issued to individuals or to private subscribers. These certificates will confirm that user’s name and their e-mail id to form an unmistakable matter within the verifying establishments database.

The verification requirements for digital signature certificate classes 1 is provided below:

(i)  Aadhaar eKYC Biometric or

(ii) application form and associate IDs or

(iii) Aadhaar eKYC OTP + Video Verification.

Class 2 Certificate:

These certificates are issued for the use of both commercial personnel and private individuals. Class 2 certificates approves that the info in the submission provided by the subscriber does not clash with the info in well-recognized consumer records.

The verification requirements for digital signature certificate classes 2 are given below:

(i) Aadhaar eKYC Biometric or

(ii) Paper based application form and supporting IDs or

(iii) Aadhaar eKYC OTP + Video Verification. The Secretive Key generation and loading should be in hardware cryptographic device certified to, FIPS 140-2 level 2.

Class 3 Certificate:

Such certificates are issued to organization and to individuals as well as. These are very high assurance records that are primarily proposed for e-commerce requests. It shall be allotted to people only on their physical presence before the verifying establishments.

In accumulation to classes of documentations stated above, the Certifying Authority can issue extra classes of Public Key Certificates. But these must be clearly defined comprising the resolution for which each class is used and the authentication systems primary the issuance of the permit.

The verification requirements for digital signature certificate classes are given below:

(i) Aadhaar eKYC Biometric or

(ii) Paper based request form & supportive IDs and physical personal presence before CA or Video verifications required or

(iii) Aadhaar eKYC OTP + Video Authorization. Secretive Key generation and filling should be in hardware cryptographic device authenticated to FIPS 140-2 level 2

Advantages Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)

1. Identity Validation

Usually, DSCs are used to validate the individuality of the participant. Beside this it supports in authorizing the data delivered.

2. Data Authenticity

As soon as a document is digitally signed by a DSC owner it declares the receiver that the information in the file is fair and true. Also, in case of any misrepresentation of facts, the receiver can take lawful action against the person.

3. Easy and Efficient

There is no need to carry Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) and it is effective to practice as the approved party can sign several papers online from anyplace at any period.

4. Online Data Security and Surety

When a document is digitally signed by the accredited guarantor using a digital signature certificate. The data in this form cannot be changed or reformed.
